Self-Fit Guide

3.0 Installation
The following guide is the recommended method for the fixing of upvc window and door frames. All fixings are supplied unless otherwise stated and comply with BS 7412 standards and are non-corrosive. All packers and blocks are supplied unless otherwise stated and are extruded plastic.

3.1 Positioning of frame work
• When a 70mm deep frame replaces a thicker frame, the new window should be set back to the plaster line and made good externally.
• When a 70mm deep frame replaces a steel window, it is often required to cut back the existing plaster line to achieve correct positioning.
• At all times, the replacement window should not expose the cavity externally.
• Any pre-existing Damp Proof Course (DPC) should be maintained and/or replaced. Please refer to the Technical Guide for further information about typical frame settings and DPC arrangements.
• All frame work should be fitted plumb within the aperture, without distortion, to avoid un-necessary pressure on corner joints and sash operation.

3.2 Fixing Procedures & Distances
• Corner fixings should be a minimum of 150mm and a maximum of 250mm from each external corner.
• Intermediate fixings should be at centres no greater than 600mm.
• A minimum of two fixings must be made on each side, unless heads fixing is not possible.
• Use of supplied packers is required to avoid distortion around fixing areas.

Fixing Positions

• Polyurethane (one-part) Foam may be used in head fixing in the presence of pre-cast concrete or steel lintels to avoid interference of drainage paths and shattering of pre-cast lintels.
• Surface areas must be moistened prior to any use of foam fixing.
• Any drainage channels in the lintel must not be blocked with foam.
